It's a challenge for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowlers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It's difficult for their batsmen to hold a record if never given the chance.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her nation didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

Whether this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this innings followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it was a challenging time because it appeared my form was missing at all," stated Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your fighting spirit activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her great strength - and a priceless quality in taking over from iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

A single came off Gaud's first delivery and from there Healy was in motion.

"The possibility to go out there and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at a World Cup - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

Once she was dismissed Australia required another 66 at one run per ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I am glad we have the assurance to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if we do, we are confident we can achieve it."

Those words will be the last competing nations at this World Cup need to hear.

In recent days a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this success succeeding win against Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she later admitted those fitness problems have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as leader.

Success in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
