The brother of the Southport attacker said his mother and father "lost control" of their son and he was concerned his brother would kill a individual of their household, a official investigation has heard.
The individual, aged 17 at the time, murdered three kids at a pop music-inspired dance workshop on July 29, 2024.
The official investigation, conducted at the venue, heard the sibling the older brother told a acquaintance there was a possibility of his relative "doing something potentially fatal."
The investigation was advised the brother messaged his friend over the digital service: "The fights are terrifying because of the danger of a fatality."
He stated his brother was similar to the psychopathic killer in the film No Country For Old Men.
Increasing Conflict
The inquiry learned he was identified with a medical condition at the age of 12 which resulted in him using a wheelchair and his family helping him more.
When asked by Richard Boyle, counsel to the inquiry, if that affected their bond he said: "Strain developed that resulted."
Dion acknowledged his brother appeared to resent this development.
He revealed to the investigation that after the household moved from the Welsh capital to the seaside town his brother's moods worsened and he would have "violent outbursts."
The hearing was informed he became "increasingly wary" of his brother, who would physically assault him frequently.
He said: "I was forced to be wary if I did speak to him because each conflict could turn into an altercation."
'Genuine concerns'
He said his sibling became increasingly physical after he was removed from Range High School in the local area, in that period.
He departed for higher education in 2022 and the two communicated rarely "due to unfamiliarity with having me around."
The inquiry was made aware of a communication the brother messaged a acquaintance on the service in which he said his relative was irritated with him speaking late at night because of the limited soundproofing in their home.
He further revealed to his friend there was a risk of "his committing an act deadly."
He stated: "The fights are frightening because of the threat of a fatality."
The counsel inquired: "You held real worries that your sibling would murder a member of your relatives?"
Dion answered: "In case matters intensified to that point."
The lawyer inquired how his family dealt with the relative's physical conduct.
"There was no point to seek to penalize him," he testified. "Moreover, there was a significant danger in proceeding that way.
"We said there was a general risk to well-being in casual discussion, if you try to confront him... it wouldn't be responded to well."
When the lawyer inquired if his parents had been unable to handle of his relative, the brother concurred.
When asked about his relative resembling a persona from the movie the Coen brothers film, he explained: "I heard that figure's meant to be a psychopath and that's why I chose that description there."
Dion revealed the last interaction he had with his brother was in the 2023 summer.
He stated that their family asked the attacker to bid farewell to him as he was departing to visit his friends and his brother threw a bottle at him but the exit was secured before it hit.
The hearing ongoing.
