Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team ran a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
