Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Schemers tables.
Fans can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
